Dynatrace is used to monitor the health and other metrics of the oracle servers and other servers that are added in the UI. UI is quite nice and its easy to look for metric graphs and generate graphs according to requirement. Currently they have automated every process via github and jenkins and its better than before.
  • Metrics addition to the UI.
  • Graphs and all generation in the UI.
  • Alerting mechanism also work like a charm.
  • UI can be a little more user-friendly from non-tech perspective.
  • Alerting mechanism needs to be more seamless.
  • Performance issues with some versions which leads to lots of incidents.
If you'd like a UI to monitor your servers and get the metrics in the form of graphs and all that fancy stuff you can go for it.
Along with that if you want alerting setup based on a threshold its a great tool for that.
But there is limited functionality and monitoring with each versions(i think there are 3) which you need to chose according to your project needs.

We are adopting the use of Dynatrace within our organization. It is being used other places within the enterprise. We're looking to expand its role in DevOps, batch process automation and monitoring and custom metrics reporting.
  • Easily integrate with a large array of products.
  • Proactive monitoring through self-discovery.
  • The AI-driven analytics is amazing.
  • Better navigation menus.
  • Integration with Mulesoft and Apigee, not just limit to Data Power. The strategic partnership with IBM may be a handicap in this.
  • Make some parts of it open source to allow faster adoption.
1. Great for a quick start on application monitoring. 2. Better suited for large scale deployments. 3. Amazing integration with the cloud.

Dynatrace has helped our application support team to automate the manual monitoring activities of the infrastructure and 200+ application virtual servers(Linux and Windows). We are able to run custom code workflows to perform monitoring on client-defined parameters and SLAs.
Primarily we are using Dynatrace for synthetic monitoring to analyze the server and application performance. This has helped us to get an in-depth analysis of how the applications are performing.
  • 24/7 monitoring for infra and applications
  • Generation of reports based on user defined thresholds
  • Ability to create custom synthetic monitoring workflows
  • Support for wide range of application technologies for monitoring
  • More options to be included for web based monitoring
  • Documentation should be included with more scenarios and usage examples
Dynatrace is well suited for large enterprises where extensive monitoring has to be performed on a day to to day basis for mission-critical applications. It is one of the best standalone tools available for synthetic monitoring which can be easily integrated with the apps and has multiple customization options for the end-users.

Dynatrace was at first used with some application teams of the bank. We currently use it to enhance the support of all applications across the bank (whole organization). It helps to find out the pain points from application development or production issues. They also get performance metrics for the applications.
  • Technology details on each host.
  • Detailed host analysis.
  • Reports.
  • Instrumentation downtime.
We had resolved issues on some major incidents from some application teams. While the developers and support group could not find the root cause, we were involved to drill down to the problem details to the code level. One example we found was that the root cause of the issue is from vendor packages.

I try to make Dynatrace famous across the whole organization. For now, only a few teams of developers use it. We use Dynatrace mostly to measure end-user performance.
  • Waterfall analysis for performance insights
  • PurePath
  • Live Chat support
  • Custom metric ingesiton
Dynatrace is fantastic when it comes to learning how transactions and services depend on each other, thanks to Service Flow functionality.

We use Dynatrace as our primary application monitoring tool across the entire IT department, and we use Dynatrace as a way to provide some value to business users when they have dependencies on IT products put forth by our department. Production support users (like myself) use Dynatrace for monitoring, alerting, troubleshooting, and anomaly detection. Our tier 1 support uses Dynatrace's dashboard tools for around-the-clock monitoring. Our software development teams use Dynatrace to gain better insight and visibility into how their code performs in our various environments.
  • Installation and implementation
  • Anomaly detection and alerting
  • Dashboard tools
  • Navigation and ease of use
Dynatrace is great for monitoring tool consolidation. It supports a very wide variety of languages and technologies. Dynatrace is great for granting company-wide visibility into IT applications and supporting software. And it is great at detecting problems, alerting the necessary parties, and providing visibility into the root cause.
Dynatrace is severely lacking in proper dashboard tools and ease of use, though. It has a steep learning curve; the interface can make it difficult to find exactly what you're looking for at times; often, once you do find what you're looking for, you can't easily put it on a dashboard to make it easier to find and access next time around. Dynatrace is also fairly expensive.

My Dynatrace Experience

Score 8 out of 10
Vetted Review

We have been with Dynatrace for 7 years, having implemented by the Application Development team when we had issues with performance degradation on our digital platform. Over the years, we transitioned from AppMon to Dynatrace, Gomez to Dynatrace Synthetic, and on-boarded not only Tier 1 but also Tier 2 Applications and started to utilize Infrastructure monitoring.
  • Simple instrumentation
  • All-in-one tool
  • Database monitoring
  • Better pricing for log data ingestion
The good: Dynatrace is great for application performance monitoring and synthetics testing, and has very good all-in-one multi-cloud support and observability.

The not so good: Dynatrace is not great for additional charges for metrics ingestion and the need for additional tools (e.g. log management and analytics). They nickel-and-dime customers.

Dynatrace has great potential for Real User Management (RUM) and Digital Experience Management (DEM) to help IT and the business side collaborate.

Dynatrace is being used for the application and performance monitoring tools it provides us as way to view our infrastructure telemetry that it gets from our Azure instance. It is currently being used across the whole organization, and the business problems it addresses is the user experience as a whole and how it relates to the infrastructure.
  • Application monitoring as far as response time and degradation
  • Performance monitoring of our entire infrastructure and how that has an effect on our users
  • The synthetic monitoring
  • Dashboard features
Dynatrace is an amazing all-around product that can really change the way you do business. Dynatrace has the ability to see all the metrics in your infrastructure, and provide you with baselines, and report off that to show you how everything works together. I can't see where Dynatrace would be less appropriate because it really allows you to correlate everything that is going on in your business from all the metrics that the OneAgent is able to gather, and you can use that information and tailor it to whichever business unit you see fit.

We are using Dynatrace to monitor most of our in-house Java and .net applications for APM. We use real user monitoring and sessions replay as well for some of these applications. Davis's AI enables us to work on other important tasks rather than to chase problem after problem. Without Dynatrace we would spend hours resolving issues. After Dyantrace was running, our MTTR dropped to minutes.
  • MTTR for problem resolution
  • Automatic root cause analysis
  • Pricing model for custom metrics.
  • Pricing model for synthetic monitoring when running solely on-prem.
Dynatrace is great for doing deep dives into code problems. Being able to have a single pane of glass to go to when problems come up allows us to reduce our MTTR to minutes instead of hours. Integrating with our DevOps pipelines allows for faster discovery of code problems before they hit production.

We are on the road to implement Dynatrace as our primary cloud monitoring solution within GCP. We will eventually expand to other clouds and are confident that Dynatrace will allow us to seamlessly support each. Within the console itself we are able to see visually simple dashboards for easy access to crucial information.
  • Dashboarding is very simplistic
  • Metric uptake is substantial
  • Release notes need to be more robust
  • Expansion of GCP offerings
Dynatrace is perfectly suited towards cloud implementations and large-scale landscapes that have a robust footprint.

Dynatrace is used by our department to help get to the bottom of performance issues/bottlenecks within the application. The challenge was not having the exact root-cause analysis of where the problem was originating. With Dynatrace, we were able to go right in to the problematic layer and get the issue resolved.
  • Quick and easy deployment
  • Problem auto-detection
  • Memory diagnostics or analysis
  • Navigation at times is challenging
Dynatrace is really well suited for full stack monitoring, especially for well-used technologies. It has the capability of quick and easy deployment where in minutes the Dynatrace platform starts learning and identifying problems.
We found it difficult to use Dynatrace with RabitMQ, Vertica, and other queues or big databases, because it does not provide the insights we would like to see.

We are currently using Dynatrace in a few departments, but we are looking to expand it to the entire production environment. Dynatrace addresses app and infrastructure monitoring, as well as log analysis. The ease of the interface and amount of info is great. Overall, Dynatrace has helped us to locate issues we didn't know were in the environment.
  • Application monitoring
  • Infrastructure monitoring
  • Hyper-V integration
  • Citrix products integration
App and infrastructure monitoring is what we use Dynatrace for right now. We are looking to expand as it has many useful tools. Dynatrace has provided us with info and metrics that we couldn't see before. It allows you to troubleshoot an issue before it becomes the customer's issue. Dynatrace was initially brought in as an app monitoring platform, and it does that extremely well. It is also being used by the development teams to identify hotspots that can benefit from optimization. We will be looking to leverage end-to-end monitoring to assess true end-user experience and also to leverage dashboards for both technical and business metrics.
  • Application monitoring
  • Infrastructure monitoring
  • Consider a basic view for newer / less frequent users of the platform
The Dynatrace platform is extensive and really shines when implemented across the stack for full end-to-end visibility from the client browser to the underlying cloud infrastructure. It is also a powerful tool to use in development/performance testing to identify issues and hotspots that are candidates for optimization, preventing these from being discovered in production. Combining client and end-to-end coverage along with their dashboard functionality you can get a combination tech/business view of KPIs.

Currently, Dynatrace is being used by the IT department only on a POC. We are reviewing the possibility to acquire a full version to support future business development like shared services and to improve our ability to automatically respond and prevent applications and infrastructure problems. Also, we intend to use Dynatrace as a business monitoring solution on a control tower-like environment.
  • Quick insights for root cause analysis
  • Dashboards with great drill down abilities
  • Business insights
  • Pricing policy
It is great in an environment with several applications integrated and with dependencies, several cloud vendors, and high transaction volume. Good for businesses with high complexity and IT dependency in mission-critical business transactions. My perception is that it is less appropriate for industrial automation, specialized applications, and when you need to generate a lot of code injection to provide detailed metrics.

Dynatrace is used as the premier enterprise monitoring tool at Air Canada. It is currently used by our monitoring and IT operation center teams. We use Dynatrace to monitor various applications in the Air Canada network including our website - aircanada.com and our check-in channels including mobile, web and airport kiosks. The main business problem Dynatrace addresses is visibility. But it also does so much more to help us reach root cause analysis quickly and automatically. Whenever we have issues on an application, Dynatrace automatically detects the problem and sends an alert to our ITOC team to investigate the current issue.
  • AIops - automation is king, and saves time/money.
  • One agent deployment is simple and the auto detection feature is great.
  • Better dashboarding - fix the bugs and give more customization options.
  • Easier ways to chart custom metrics.
Dynatrace is great when we have an issue with one of our apps and we need to pinpoint the problem. For example, we had an issue with kiosks at airports - we managed to have Dynatrace alert the airports when the kiosks were running low on paper and to replace them. Another place Dynatrace excels is when we have an outage that is affecting multiple applications at once. Usually that means some dependency is down and Dynatrace can quickly identify the root cause.

Dynatrace is less appropriate on some legacy systems that are not supported. Unfortunately no support for really old applications.

  • Improved infrastructure monitoring.
  • Improved support for Kubernetes.
Well suited in all cloud environments. Less appropriate for very old legacy and custom applications in ancient languages.

  • More robust APIs.
  • A lot of updates to one agents and the platform in general.
They more or less have delivered on their promises of what the platform can do.

Dynatrace is used by infrastructure support teams, web development teams, platform DevOps teams, and the service desk. It addresses service response time issues, availability issues, bad code issues, and resource utilization issues.
  • Installs easily with no modifications needed to target applications.
  • Provides detailed PurePath code-level visibility to all application transactions not just sampled ones.
  • Dynatrace could improve the license model. They license host units, DEMs, and metrics differently.
  • Price model for host units is based on host memory size and this can be costly.
It is well suited for Java applications, Windows servers, Linux servers, cloud applications. It is good at web availability, real user monitoring of web sites and java applications. It not as good at frameworks like weblogic due to the admin console and other web logic server issues and the T3 protocol.

Our current and future ecommerce platforms are enabled with Dynatrace for application debugging and insight, most importantly due to a variety of application platforms and even custom applications developed internally. It is used company-wide by our ebusiness organization.
  • Level of detail digging into supported platforms.
  • Problem AI & notification.
  • SaaS model user interface can be difficult/confusing to navigate.
  • While many plugins are available, many involve detailed tweaking to get right.
Well suited where you can implement the agent on as many platforms/hosts/environments that contribute to the whole as possible to eliminate gaps in service flows. For very proprietary application platforms perhaps not operating with widely-accepted standards the level of detail you may gain could only be host/utilization/resource statistics, less useful.

We use Dynatrace to measure performance of key business applications.
  • Deep insights into performance issues.
  • Real user and transaction monitoring with PurePath feature.
  • No code-level instrumentation for Python.
  • Some learning curve to use the platform effectively with advanced features.
Best APM platform in the market. Dynatrace provides insight into detailed performance metrics for complex enterprise applications.
It doesn't provide detailed performance metrics for Python applications out of box. There is an SDK provided for code-level instrumentation of Python but it requires significant effort and code change.

Most of my clients use Dynatrace in specific departments, not the whole organization. They are almost all working on expanding this and especially trying to bring business people to the party. Most of the time, my clients come to Dynatrace to work on monitoring their apps, but we try to show them that they can deliver business metrics and also optimize their performance, not just be reactive.
  • Problem Detection
  • Root Cause Analysis
  • Serverless application monitoring
  • Cloud integration
Dynatrace is well suited for monitoring a diverse ecosystem of applications, running in multiple environments and with differing languages. It is very quick and easy to implement Dynatrace and it is very fast to deliver business value. In the world of cloud deployments, monitoring server-less applications, i.e. AWS Lambda is still in early stages, which is a shame since we often use it.

Dynatrace is used by our organization across our consumer-facing applications in order to help us diagnose issues with the applications that may affect customers' ability to transact and use the product. We also use the service to monitor our services externally from the internet in order to ensure global availability.
  • Application performance management for Java apps
  • Container monitoring
  • Integration with AD
  • Ease of dashboarding for Synthetics
Dynatrace is great if you have custom-written applications that you are running in the cloud or on-premises. It helps provide insight into your applications, how they are used, and what your customers are experiencing. For monitoring externally, the service works well to help you see what your customers are seeing.
